Ashton Fuchs, Sous Chef After graduating from Illinois State University with an intention of pursuing business and sociology, Ashton became interested in the culinary arts when friends and family encouraged her to think more seriously about the field. Ashton’s hobbies had always included gardening, canning, and cooking for others—so why not explore a culinary career path, her friends questioned. Ashton took their suggestions seriously and began to research culinary school programs. She settled on Kendall College in Chicago, a program well known for its competitive environment and distinguished alumni. North Shore Magazine reports “The alumni list of Kendall College reads like a ballot for the James Beard Awards.” The James Beard Foundation Awards are the country’s most coveted honors for chefs and food and beverage professionals. The culinary program at Kendall College lasted a year and a half, and after graduating Ashton accepted her first-ever restaurant job: Harvest Café. For over two years, Ashton has worked tirelessly at various stations throughout the kitchen, including cooking pizzas, prepping desserts, preparing salads, and sautéing. She has learned and grown professionally throughout her tenure at Harvest Café, and she credits the restaurant’s fun atmosphere as to why she enjoys coming to work every day. A native of Farmersville, Illinois, Ashton says “simple, good food simply brings comfort and joy.” Ashton’s favorite pastimes include hosting cookouts with friends and canning homemade relishes and salsas.  Please feel free to say hello and tell all your friends about our hidden jewel in Delavan.
